Overview
In March, I (Far_Help_6482) began working on a Legacy-style project for Fire Red, inspired by the Smith Legacy team’s remakes of Generations 1 to 3 games. I aimed to create a unique take on Fire Red that filled a gap left by their work.
However, I’ve decided to cancel the project due to personal reasons and a loss of interest. Despite this, I’m releasing a canceled build for those curious to explore it.
This build has similarities to Yellow Legacy but also introduces distinct differences. Although a lot of effort went into this project, I chose not to provide detailed documentation. This decision is inspired by the nostalgic feeling of discovering Pokémon games with minimal guidance.
At its core, this project is a quality-of-life hack designed to enhance the Fire Red experience without significantly changing the original Generation 3 gameplay. It offers a polished, yet faithful, version of the classic game.
Features
- Buffs and Nerfs: Select Pokémon and moves have been rebalanced, with adjustments made to both strengthen and weaken certain elements to create more balanced gameplay.
- Moveset Changes: Pokémon have received updated movesets to provide new strategic options and shift the dynamics of battles.
- Increased Difficulty: The overall difficulty has been ramped up, particularly in the later stages, with tougher teams and bosses offering a more challenging experience.
- Enhanced Encounters: Pokémon availability and encounter rates have been optimized. Most Pokémon lines, including those usually locked behind Surf, are now available earlier in the game.
- Expanded Pokédex: The Pokédex now includes 200 entries, with additions mainly from Johto and some from Hoenn, filling type gaps such as introducing more Dark-type Pokémon.
- Type Swaps: While the Physical/Special Split (PSS) is not implemented, there is a type swap: Ghost-type moves are now Special, and Dark-type moves are Physical.
- Game Corner Adjustments: The cost of items in the Game Corner has been lowered, making it easier to access valuable rewards.
- TM and Move Tutor Relearning: All TMs and moves taught by tutors can be relearned, giving players greater flexibility in optimizing their teams.
- Additional Tweaks: Numerous other improvements and quality-of-life changes are documented to further enhance the gameplay experience.
